The Chitamber School of Humanities and Social Sciences is named after Dr. John Benedict Chitamber, a renowned social scientist, who served this Institution with great dedication and commitment. His famous book Rural Sociology does not need any introduction. He took over the reigns of the Allahabad Agricultural Institute in 1959, and continued as its Principal till 1980. Major academic expansion of the institute took place during this period. He was an extension scientist par excellence and made extension a renowned programme of the institute. He was a consultant to FAO, World Bank, and World Council of Churches in 1977 and also Director of Rural Development and Agriculture, at World Vision International Monrovia and California, U.S.A.
